NEW SOUTH WALES ACT. NOT TO BE POSTPONED. SYDNEY, June 24. Mr J. M. Baddeley, Minister of Labour.and Industry, refused, the request of the Accident Insurance Underwriters’ Association that the operation of the Act be postponed for a period of three months. He-stated that no valid reason had been, shown for postponement. Another three months would not have a material effect in producing'more reasonable premium rates, and in tho meantime members of the community for whose benefit the Act was passed would be deprived of their compensation riglrts, which, in the Government’s opinion, should have been operative many years ago. Mr Lang announced to-day that he had instructed the Treasury. Insurance branch to become a licensed insurer under tho Workers’ Compensation Act, and to advertise for business in competition with private companies. The name.of the Treasury branch has been changed to the Government Insurance Offico of New South Wales. —Press Association.
