SERIOUS CRISIS ARISES. MATTER OF GROUND CHARGES. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Juno 24. A serious crisis has arisen in the Soccer world, so serious that at a special meeting of the council of tlio New Zealand Football Association tonight, the following resolution was carried: “On account of the extortionate demands from an association for ground charges, the Council regrets that if* has no option but to clare the competition for the English Football Association trophy off.” At a meeting of the Wellington Football Association management committee on Wednesday evening, it was decided not to accept the council’s offer of £7 10s for use of the Basin Reserve. Tho council then called a special meeting, and after carefully considering the requests of other hssociations in tho matter of ground charges, decided to offer the Wellington Association £l2 10s. This offer was conveyed to the Wellington Football Association at once.. That body also called a special meeting, at which Mr W. Duncan presided. The council’s offer was declined, and it was decided to adhere to the sum of £3O. Tho Wellington Association also decided to send a telegram to tho Auckland Association, offering them £BO to meet Wellington at Wellington on the Basin Reserve, on July 3, in order not to disappoint the public. The New Zealand Council was informed of the decision to-day, and passed the resolve already stated.
