DECISION REACHED.
AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE. “SOMEWHERE NORTH OF WELLINGTON.” [By Telegraph—Special to Standard.] AVELLINGTON, June 24. Speaking in the House of' ltepresentatwes this evening, Hon. O. J. HaAvken, . Minister of Agriculture, made a reference to agricultural education. He said-there Avas a reasonable demand on the part of the farmers for agricultural education, and ho thought it AA’ould pay the country to bring this brand of education up-to-date. As a result of the various commissions Avhich had reported, the Government had made definite conclusions and had decided to make a college of university-- standard on “a site as near as possible to the centre of population of NeAV Zealand, Avhich had been found to be someAvhere north of AVellington. , Lincoln College, Avhich had done good Avorlc, would be encouraged to carry on, but a college of the highest standard must be established in the North Island.
Mr D. G. Sullivan (Aa-oh) : Hav6 you come to a decision then ? The Minister: Yes, Ave have decided. .Mr D. AV. Forbes (Leader of the National Party): How much is it going to cost? . The Minister: That will bo dealt with in time. Continuing, the Minister said the college Avoukl afford great facilities to young farmers. Mr J. Horn (AVakatipu): AVith college degrees? The Minister: Certainly; it is going to be of the highest standard. The acquisition of the farm for the College AA'ould cost about £50,000, .while the buildings AAOuld cost about £IOO,OOO, and thereafter there AA’ould be an annual expenditure of from £15,000 to £20,000.
