At the W’imbledon tennis tournament, in the first round of the women’s singles, Miss Stephens (Australia) beat Miss Joan Ridley 5 —7, 7—5, 6-2.
In'the first round of the men’s doubles Lawrence and Havers beat Yencken and Gilbert 4—6, 4—7, 6 —2, 6—2, 6 —3.—A. and N.-Z. cable.
