Aiken in his continued illness was carried at last night’s annual meeting of the Palmerston North Bowling ‘Club, and the hope was expressed that he would shortly be restored to health. Tho Pahiatua Presbyterian congregation has extended a call to tho Rev. Frank McDonald of the Foxton Presbyterian charge. The matter will come before tho Foxton congregation at an early date. Mr B. Scott, of tho Department of Internal Affairs, Wellington, arrived in Palmerston North yesterday to make arrangements for Mr Hurst Seager’s lecture, on New Zealand battle exploit memorials,, which is to tako place in the Municipal Hall next week. Tho friends of Mr R. Murphy, of Taikorea, who is chairman of the Sluggish River Drainage Board, and who has been an inmate of the Palmerston North Hospital for some weeks, will be pleased to learn that his condition has improved sufficiently to enable him to return to his home. Mr George Bernsee, of Dannevirke, who was injured by a fall of rock in tho Manawatu Gorge yesterday, and who was admitted to the Palmerston North Hospital for treatment, was found to have sustained a fractured shoulder and leg. He is progressing satisfactorily. Mr A. W. Burnett, of the clerical staff' at the local railway station, lias been transferred to Alexandra and will be replaced at Palmerston North by Mr C. S. Dale, of Wellington. Mr A. W. Drury, of the station staff, has also been transferred to a 'similar position at Rangataua-and leaves here at an early date. In the Legislative Council yesterday leave of absence for tho remainder of the session was granted to Sir Francis Bell, Sir Thomas Mackenzie, Hon. W. H. Triggs and Dr Collins on account of public business; also to Hon. F. Mander for six days on account of sickness in the family, and to Hon. H. L. Michel on account of urgent public business. The death occurred at Wellington of Mr F. G. Hood, professional to the Miramar Golf Club, from pneumonia, .following an attack of influenza. The son of a Scottish professional, the late Mr'-Hood was one of the finest golfers who ever handled a club in New Zealand. He had served in a professional, capacity to several clubs before going to Miramar. Last year (1925) he won the New Zealand professional championship at Nelson with a score of 297. one of the very few occasions the event has been won with a score of less than 300. Deceased leaves a widow and three children.
