YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES. At the afternoon call yesterday on the Wellington £?tock Exchange sales were reported of Bank of New Zealand shares (three parcels) at 635, and Union Bank shares at £ls 7s. There was a good' demand for Government stocks and bonds, with' buyers of the 4i per cents at £96 10s, the 5 per cents at £9B 10s and the 5$ per cents at £99 7s 6d. For the Wellington Gas Company’s debentures there was a bid of £IOO. Bank shares were very firm. Bank of Australasia shares at £l4 5s 6d were 6d higher, Commercial Bank ordinary shares at 31s 3d were 3d higher, Bank of New South Wales shares were unchanged at £45, Bank of New Zealand at 62s 6d were 6d higher, Union Bank shares at £ls 6s were Is higher, National Bank of Australasia, £lO paid, were unchanged at £l7 17s, and English, Scottish and Australian Bank shares were also unchanged at, £B. Building shares were in demand. There were buyers of Equitable Building at £9 ss, Wellington Investment at 8s 9d and Wellington Trust and Loan at £6 7s 6d. Gas shares were steady. Auckland Gas shares were wanted at 23s 9d, Christchurch Gas at 23s 9d and Wellington Gas, ordinary, at 27s 3d. Insurance shares were firm. There were bids of 78s 9d for National Insurance, 40s for New Zealand Insurance and 60s 3d for South British Insurance. N.Z. Refrigerating shares, 10s paid, were in demand at 8s 2d. Wellington Woollen shares were firm, with buyers of Wellington Woollen ordinary at £6 7s 6d and preference at £6 8s 6d. Timber shares were steady. _ Leyland O’Brien Timber shares were in demand at 425, and National Timber at 17s. There were buyers of Crown Brewery shares at 20s, Burns, Philp and Co. at 36s 3d. Colonial Sugar at £54, Electrolytic Zinc at 35s 9d and Taranaki Oil at 12s 6d.

MEAT FOR GLASGOW

LONDON, June 12. The New South Wales Minister for Agriculture (Mr Dunn), speaking at Glasgow, said he hoped that the intense interest in Australian products, arising from improved grading, would result in greater direct trade with provincial ports. Australian meat was greatly improved. The chairman' of the Navigation Trust indicated that the erection of cold storage accommodation was necessary. There was no bar to direct shipment of meat to Glasgow, which served 6,000,000 people.
