ADDINGTON MARKET.

HEAVY ENTRY OFNORTH ISLAND EWES. IRREGULAR PRICES FOR FAT CATTLE. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Jur,e 23. A feature of the Addington market to-day was the heavy entry of ewes from the North Island approximating 10,000 head. The bulk of them were very low conditioned, and sold accordingly. The fat cattle market was irregular, but, on the average, little different from last week, and the fat sheep met with a brisk demand over the final stages. The store, sheep entry for condition and general quality was the worst of the year, and it was the largest for a mid-winter sale for many years. North Island ewes found buyers at substantially lower values than recently. Good local ewes sold briskly, and hoggets also sold at late rates, but wethers were weaker. Good four and six-toothed Romney-cross ewes made 33s 9d, soundmouthed crossbred ewes' 22s to 265, lowconditioned and inferior crossbred sound-mouthed ewes 17s to 20s, failingmouthed crossbred ewes 14s 6d to 18s, failing-mouthed halfbred ewes 20s 6d to 275, good sound and failing-mouthed ewes 26s 6d; failing-mouthed merino ewes 21s, small two-toothed crossbred ewes 22s to 26s 6d. Crossbred ewe hoggets 24s 6d to 27s lid, halfbred wether hoggets 20s to 21s 6d, small halfbred wether hoggets 20s to 21s 6d, small halfbred wether hoggets 17s to 18s 9d, crossbred wether hoggets 19s to 225. Four and six-toothed wethers 24s to 26s 6d, two and fourtoothed wethers 203 6d to 24s 9d. Fat lambs.—An end-of-season entry only 600 head and a sale at late rates. Fat sheep.—-A heavy entry of 13 races, a few less than last week. Exporters bid more spiritedly than at the last sale, and though the market was weaker at the commencement is concluded equally as firm as last week. Extra prime wethers realised to 37s Id, prime wethers 31s to 345, medium wethers 28s 6d to 30s 6d, light wethers 24s 9d to 275. Extra prime ewes to 34s lOd, prime ewes 22s to 25s 6d, medium ewes 19s to 21s 9d, light ewes 16s to 18s 6d, aged ewes 12s to 15s 6d. Fat cattle.—Five hundred yarded, a fair number of cows being included. The sale was up to last week’s level for good beef, but easier for other stuff. Best medium weight beef made from 37s 6d to 40s per 1001 b, heavyweight 35s 6d to 37s 6d, medium 34s to 365, fair cow beef 30s to 345, inferior /24s to 28s, and rough down to 21s. Extra heavy steers realised to £l9 2s 6d, prime heavy steers £ls 10s to £l7 15s, prime medium-weight steers £l3 15s to £ls 15s, medium quality steers £lO to £l3 10s, ligfit steers £7 to £9 10s. Extra prime heifers to £l3 12s 6d, prime heifers £9 5s to £ll ss, ordinary heifers £7 to £9, light heifers £4 12s 6d to £6 15s, extra prime cows to £l3 12s Od, prime cows £8 to £lO 10s, ordinary cows £5 15s to £7 15s, inferior cows £3 15s to £5 10s. Vealers.—Killable stuff sold well at late rates. Good vealers made to £7. medium £5 to £6 10s, bestcalves £4 to £4 17s Gd, medium calves £2 12s 6d to £3 15s, poor stuff 10s to 255. Store Cattle.—A pen of 31-year cows made £4. The entry was nondescript. Dairy Cattle.—Mostly old cows were entered, which sold draggingly, but young cows at the drop were in demand. Good second to fourth calvers made to £ls, others £6 10s to £lO. springing heifers £4 10s to £7 10s, old cows in profit to £3. Fat Pigs.—A good demand, especially for porkers, baconers being a shade easier. Choppers made £3 103 to £9 3s 6d, baconers £4 7s to £6, extra heavy £6 10s to £6 15s (average price 8d to BJd per lb.). Porkers 55s to 80s (average price per lb. 9d to lOd). Store Pigs.—A small’entry, and a firmer sale. . Weaners made 20s to 255, small stores 26s to 30s,' medium stores 34s to 435, large- stores 50s to 555.

STOCK MARKET. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., and Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd. report on their Johnsonvillo sale, held yesterday :—A full yarding of both sheep and cattle came forward. Quality throughout was not good, with the exception of odd pens. There was a smaller attendance than usual, but every pen changed hands at satisfactory prices, although several pens of bullocks were sold too cheap. Quotations: Wethers, 27s sd, 27s 9d, 28s Id to 29s 9d; ewes, 18s, 20s, 21s, 21s 6d, 21s 9d to 23s 6d; lambs, 225. Bullocks, £9, £9 ss, £9 10s, £lO 10s, £ll, £ll ss, £ll 15s, £ll 17s 6d to £l3 15s; runners, £4 Is, £4 10s, £5 to £6; vealers, 30s, £2, £2 7s 6d, £3 2s 6d to £3 17s 6d; small vealers, 8s to 12s.

RABBITSKIN SALE. Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., Wellington, advise having received tbo following report from their Dunedin office in regard to the rabbitskin sale held in that centre on Tuesday, the 22nd inst:—We offered a large catalogue to a full attendance of buyers. Competition was keen for all grades of skins with the exception of spotted winters and incomings, prices for which were considerably lower. Other grades remained firm at last sale’s rates. We quote: Prime winter bucks 118 d to 120 d, prime does 96d to lOld, first bucks, 114 d to 117 d, first does 83d to 95d, second bucks 89d to IOOd, second does 72d to 89d, early winters 9Qd to IOOd, incoming 84d to 90d, late autumrfs 75d to 82d, early autumns 60d to 72d, prime racks 41d to 44d, light racks 38d to 39d, summers 32d to 34d.

HERD TESTING. RONGOTEA FORMS BRANCH. A large meeting of Rongotea farmers, over which Mr A. J. Will, chairman of directors of the Rongotea Cooperative Dairy Company, presided, was addressed last evening by Mr J. Ferguson, organiser of the Manawatu Herd Testing' Association. Mr Ferguson’s demonstration of the value of the movement created keen interest and many questions were asked and satisfactorily answered. A resolution was passed expressing the meeting’s decision to join the association, and the following committee was appointed: Messrs A, J. Will, C. Watkins, R. Anderson, H. F. Marshall and A'. J. Dear.

THE WOOL MARKETS. SALE IN SYDNEY. SYDNEY, June 23. The 1925-26 wool-selling season has concluded. Competition for all wellgrown wools was maintained to-day, and the series closed with some improvement on new clip lines showing attractiveness and depth of staple. Faulty and dusty sorts were irregular. New lines of fine crossbred realised full late rates. Super scoured sorts had fairly good competition at unchanged prices.—Press Association. j
