BOWLING

PALMERSTON NORTH CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. _ ■?

The' annual meeting of the Palmerston North Bowling Club was held .last evening, Mr G. H. Trott presiding over an attendance of about twenty members. ~..... i' i ■

The annual report, as already published, was adopted, together with the balance-sheet. ;

In formally moving their adoption, the chairman stated that, while it would be noticed. from the balanoesheet that there had been a slight loss on the year’s working, the . club ‘ had experienced, generaly speaking, a most successful year. Factors responsible for that slight loss were that £6O less had been received by way of subscriptions, while maintenance costs had increased from ’£l6“ the year before to £54. However, by carefully watching the expenditure and by making an effort to increase the membership, which at present stood at 65,, there should be no repetition of this loss. Suggestions that he thought should be considered by the incoming committee were that each member responsible for the nomination *of a new member be made responsible for his subscription being paid, and that a rebate be made on all subscriptions' paid before a certain date. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.

The election of. officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—President, Mr W. B. Crump; vice-presi-dents, Messrs G. Tremaine and S. Bayliss; committee, Messrs V. Goldfinch, H. Griggs, A. Pickering, W. H. Boon, O. Rowling, O. W. Ennis. and J. H. Stevens; sole selector, Mr J. H. Stevens; match committee, Wednesday, Messrs Bavliss, Pickering and Paton; Saturday Messrs Kerslake, Rowling and Ramsay; green superintendent, Mr G. Wilson; secretary, Mr J. K. Paton; treasurer. Mr W. E. Jones; auditor, Mr A. E. Kerslake; delegates to the Manawatu Centre, Messrs Stevens and Pickering. GENERAL.

In thanking members for his election, Mr Crump stated that he felt sure that the club would continue to prosper. A vote of thanks was accorded the retiring officers. A'rising out of a recommendation from the retiring committee, sub-com-mittees were set up to arrange for transportation of travelling rinks; to assist the green superintendent; to take charge of the afternoon tea arrangements and to look after the gardens. Mr A. F. Wimsett was appointed to look after the publicity side of the club’s operations. CLUB COMPETITIONS.

After some discussion on the subject of the competitions to be conducted bv the’club this coming season, Mr Kerslake moved that champion singles and club pairs be played, the competitors in the latter competition to be composed of A and B grade players paired off.—The motion was carried with the addition that the various pairs be chosen by the selectorIt was suggested that an honours board be provided so that a permanent record could be had of the club champion every year, but no action was taken.

With the idea of stimulating interest in inter-club competitions it was resolved that the secretaries of other clubs be written to enquiring what trophies they had in their possession and then, when the replies came to hand, rinks be selected to play for them.

During the proceedings Mr Trott, who will shortly bo removing from Palmerston North, was presented with silverware as a small token of appreciation of his work in the club.
