SOCIAL FUNCTIONS.

A card afternoon was held by tlio Terrace End Croquet Club at the pavilion yesterday, there being an attendance of about 60 ladies. Mesdames Scroggs, Fletcher, Bruce and Meadley were the hostesses. The “500” tournament was won by Mrs Usmar and the euchre tournament by Mrs Scott. Those holding the “lucky seats” were Mesdames Carter and Newman. Another of the popular card functions,of, the Manawatu Croquet Club held last evening was largely attended. The hostesses wore Mesdames W. Hunter, G. Spinley, Davies and Eckersley. In the ladies’ section of tho “500” card tournament Mrs A. D. .Campbell won the first prize and Mrs Sinclair the consolation. In the men’s division Mr Bay won the first prize and Mr Eckersley received the consolation trophy. The euchre prizes were won by Mrs Carnachan. and Mr Spinley, the consolation trophies going to Mrs Tapp and Mr Crow. Another successful social function was conducted at Terrace End last evening under the auspices of the St. Peter’s Church Ladies’ Guild. There was a good attendance and the money raised will be devoted to the parish funds. Mrs Bovis was the winner of the ladies’ euchre tournament.
