KING’S SON.
WILL HE OPEN AUSTRALIAN PARLIAMENT. MELBOURNE, Juno 11. “We would very cordially welcome one of the King’s sons being in Australia to perform, the opening ceremony of Parliament at “Canberra,” stated the Prime Minister in the House of Representatives this morning. Mr Bruce, who said he was sure this sentiment would be supported by all tho people of Australia, had been asked by Mr Manning whether any answer had been received to the invitation to a member of the Royal Family to open Parliament. Mr Bruce would neither affirm nor deny that an official invitation had been extended. He said there was no further statement he could make. The question of tho sale' of liquor at Canberra was raised when Sir Granville Ryrie referred to the report that the House" Committee had decided in favour of a bar in the new Parliament House. . . The Minister representing the Home and Territories, Mr Marr,. said that the whole matter would, receive the Government’s consideration, but no resolution of 'the House Committee could override the ordinance under which the territory was declared dry. The Prime Minister said the matter was one of the greatest importance, and the House would be given a full opportunity to express its views on any action which might be taken regarding the sale of liquor at Canberra.
