DAMAGE BY FIRE.
BLAZE AT HASTINGS. LARGE DWELLING DESTROYED. Per Press Association. HASTINGS, June 23. Early this morning an eight-roomed residence in Duke streot, owned and occupied by Mr Guy Roclifort, ivas destroyed by fire. The brigade was handicapped by the distance from the main water supply, and consequently the pressure at the end of 1900 feet of hose was negligible, .but the firemen saved the outbuildings: Practically all the furniture and contents were lost. The outbreak is attributed to a fire left in the dining-room and a probably defective chimney. The insurance on the house was £2OOO, and on the furniture and effects £SOO. outbreak: at otane. WAIPAWA, June 23. Fire last night totally destroyed two buildings at Otane, E. T. Wilder’s garage and F. Limbrick’s motor shed. There was no water supply, and the efforts were concentrated on saving the adjoining buildings. Most of Mr Wilder’s stock was saved, but an old car was burnt. Mr Limbrick lost a motor mail bus which was nearly new.
