RONGOTEA TOWN BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING.

The regular monthly meeting of the Rongotea Town Board was held on Monday. There wore present: Commissioners L. 11. Yarrall (chairman), A. Simmonsen, S." J. Teaz and W. J. Croucher. Leave of absence was granted to Commissioner Guymer. CORRESPONDENCE. From the Public Trust Office, notifying that tho authority of tho Public Trustee had been obtained and the redemption of tho board’s debenture was being arranged with a Government department accordingly. From tho Rongotea Gymnastic Club, applying for tho use of the Town Hall at reduced rates. —Granted. From S. J. Teaz, applying for a renewal of slaughtering license. —Granted. A. C. Eades was granted a renewal of his billiard room license, subject to tho same terms as last year. TRIBUTE TO SIR JAS. WILSON. It was resolved: That this board place on record its appreciation of tho long and valued service rendered to tho Manawatu county by Sir James Wilson during tho many years that he so ungrudgingly gave in tho public interest, and that a letter be sent embodying the thanks of tho board to Sir James Wilson. Tho text of the letter is as follows: Sir James Wilson, Bulls.—Respected sir, —Now that you have relinquished an active executive participation in tho administration of county politics as chairman and member of tho Manawatu County Council, we, tho undersigned, chairman and commissioners of the Rongolea Town Board, desiro on behalf of ourselves and tho ratepayers of tho town district to convey to you on your voluntary retirement our sincere appreciation of the valuablo service that you have so ungrudgingly given over a very extended period. Your public activities and wise counsel which have been ’ exercised with 6uch conspicuous earnestness and ability in so many directions have entitled you to tho respect, gratitude and esteem of the public of tho Dominion, and especially the ratepayers and farmers of tho Manawatu county. Wo nolo with pleasure that you have not entirely withdrawn from public life, and wo express the hope that, during tho evening of your days, you may long bo spared to perforin tho less strenuous public duties to which you have alroady devoted so many useful years in a busy lifetime. Although inadequately expressed, wo trust that you will appreciate the spirit in which this acknowledgment is tendered. —Rongotea, June 21. GENERAL. It was further resolved to write congratulating Mr 11. H. Hunt on his election as chairman of tho Manawatu County Council, and wishing him success in tho responsible duties that he has undertaken in tho public interest. Accounts to the value of £42 9s lOd were passed for payment.
