NEW METHODIST COLLEGE.
VISIT OF PRINCIPAL LAWS. Last night a large number of the officers of St. Paul s Methodist Church, with their wives, met Rev. Principal Laws at tea in the schoolroom, when a pleasant social hour was spent. Subsequent to the tea a meeting was held at the church, ltcv. M. A. Rugby Pratt presided over a large gathering. Dr Laws delivered an impressive and eloquent address on the problems confronting the Church to-day. He spoke of the social unrest, the international cleavages, the intellectual activity and the spiritual interests of the age, and showed the part the Christian Church had to play in the solution of many perplexing problems. The outlook was full of promise, yet full of challenge. To guide the thoughts of the age a cultured and competent ministry was essential. I lie speaker referred to the course of training being given at the tlieologicaj, college in Auckland and explained the proposals for erecting and equipping a new college building. Ho bespoko the practical assistance of his hearers. Promises of about £328 were given at the meeting and a number of wellwishers of tho scheme undertook to make known the measure of their assistance after reflection. Throughout the Dominion thescheme is meeting with hearty support and it is anticipated that the full sum of £40,000 needed will be raised this year.
