WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE.

YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES.

There were no transactions recorded at either the morning or afternoon calls on the Wellington Stock Exchange yesterday. There was a good demand for the 41 i>er cent. Government stocks and bonds at £96 10s, and for the 5J per cents. £99 10s was bid. Bank shares were firm, with buyers of Bank of Australasia at £l4 2s, National Bank at £6 19s, Bank of New Zealand at 61s 9d cum dividend, a rise of 3d. Union Bank at £ls 2s, and English, Scottish and Australian Bank at £7 17s 6d. Goldsbrough Mort and Co.’s shares were firm at 495, and Equitable Building shares were 2s 6d higher at £9 2s 6d. Wellington Trust and Loan shares' were in demand at £6 7s, and New Zealand Guarantee Corporation ordinary at 9s 9d. There was a good demand for. gas shares, with bids of 23s 7d for Auckland Gas, 23s 6d for Christchurch Gas, and 27s 3d for Wellington Gas ordinary and 16s for the preference shares. Insurance shares were very firm. There were buyers of National Insurance at £3 18s 9d, South British Insurance at 60s 6d and Standard Insurance at 575. Huddart-Parker shares were very firm, the ordinary at 445, and the preference at 20s 6d, and Union Steam preference shares were wanted at 19s Bd. Wellington Woollen shares were very firm, the ordinary at £6 7s and the preference at £6 Bs. Staples and Co. Brewery shares were in demand at 38s. There were ' buyers of Dental and Medical Supply at 16s 3d. LONDON, June 9. At the tallow 'sales 1175 casks were offered and 162 were sold at about 6d

per cwt advance. Mutton, fine 45s 6dc per cwt, medium 435; beef, fine 45s 6d, medium 42s 6d.—A. and N.Z. cable. Dalgety and Coy., Ltd., report having received the following cablegram from their London house under date of the 9th inst.:—Tallow: 1175 casks of tallow offered, 340 sold. On last week’s quotations prices show a rise of 6d per cwt.
