ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL. [From Our Own Correspondent.] A meeting of. those interested in the formation of a junior Association team locally was held this week { when Mr J. McColl presided. In outlining the object of the meeting, Mr McColl' said that it would nob bo possible for tho team to travel a groat deal this season. Friendly matches could bo arranged, however, and ho hoped all those present would take the game up seriously and get down to practice. It decided that the club be run un der tho senior club until tho end of the present season. Lectures will be held in order to make the members conversant with tho rules of soccer. The annual subscription \v.-s fixed at 7s 6d. A practice will bo held on Easton Park at 1.30 p.m. on Saturday. HOCKEY. The oft-postponed hockey match between tho W.E.O.G. and Foxton, teams took place on Easton Park on Wednesday afternoon. Tho game was very interesting and closely contested in the first spell which ended: W.E.O.G. 2, Foxton 1. Shortly boforo half-time Miss W. Walls, who had been playing a great gamo for tho homo team, was struck over the eyo with the ball and had to retire. In tho early part of tho second spell Mrs Arcus had the misfortuno to put her wrist out and retired. Both vacancies were filled by substitutes. Tho Palmerston North team played with combination and dash and time and again broke through Foxton’s defence in the second spell. Tho final score was: W.E.O.G. 6, Foxton 2. BOY SCOUTS. A meeting, convened by Mr Warwick, was held to discuss »tho formation of a troop of Boy Scouts in Foxton. Mr Warwick, who presided, outlined the object of tho meeting and stated that tho boys were very keen to omulato the girls in tho formation of a troop of scouts. Financial assistance would bo required and tho election of a committee to govern tho organisation. Mr Mason outlined the scouts’ law and tho benefits to be derived by lads joining tfio organisation. Mr Porreau strongly supported tho movement and suggested that a shop day bo organised to raise the necessary funds. Ho moved that a committee bo formed of those present, and Mr G. F. Smith with power to add to tho number, which was carried. The Rev. Walton outlined his connection with the scout movement and urged the necessity for obtaining tho services of suitable scoutmasters. He suggested that Major Sandal, of Palmerston North, be invited to address tho boys on matters affecting the scout movement. Captain Stone said tho movement, to be a success, must have workers and should bo conducted on independent lines so that all classes of the community could co-operate. It was decided to invito tenders for uniforms locally in order to ascertain what money would bo required to meet the immediate formation.

Mr F. Mason was appointed treasurer and other details wero left in tho chair man’s hands.

Tho Methodist ladies’ social afternoon was held at the residence of Mrs F. Chalk on Wednesday. There was a good attendance and an enjoyable time was spent by all present. It was decided to hold a shop day at an early date.
