BAY OF PLENTY FISH.

RETURN TO THEIR GROUNDS. EXTRAORDINARY HOME-COMING TAURANGA, April 6. The discolouration of the sea in the Bay of Rlenty which affected the fishing at Mayor Island and Mercury Bay for the past month lias now completely disappeared. It will be remembmered that, as soon as the water became dirty, caused most probably by some sort of marine disturbance, every species of fish suddenly vanished. Several days ago a most unusual sight was witnessed close off shore from White Island. The men employed on the island supplement their diet with the fish they catch close to their camp, and, owing to their supply being more or less interrupted through the dirty water, their surprise can be understood when the space of sea they usually operate in became a living mass of gambolling fish. The blue mau-mau could he seen packed like sardines on the bottom, while kingfish, kahawai, trevalli and schnapper, chased by a school of sharks, could be seen everywhere. A seven-foot shark was landed on a hand-line. A short distance out a large swordfish was seen leaping from the water, and a whale and calf also made an appearance. The men had a most successful day’s fishing, patching large '.numbers on hand lines, from the beach.
