FOXTON NOTES

VEHICLES IN COLLISION. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A car u.'lven by Mr E. Cornfoot, of the Manawatu Heads, collided with Messrs Aladgo Bros’ incoming eliar-'a-banc at tho intersection of tho Beach Road and Park street at about 5.30 last evening. Fortunately no one was injured, but the’ driver of tho char-a-bano, Mr V. , McDowell, received a cut in tho neck from Hying glass. Mr Cornfoot was proceeding down .Robinson street prior to the accident, in the direction of tho Beach, and failed to notico the char-a-banc as ho approached tho intersection. Mr McDowell, who was well on tho connect side of tho road, noticed tho approaching car and swerved to avoid a collision, but without avail. The lighter vehicle struck tho side of tho bus near the engine and was swung around, by the impact and grazed tho side of tho former vehicle. Mr Cornfoot was the only occupant of the car* and ho escaped injury. Tho car was turned completely round and stood facing the direction from whence it came. Both oll’-sido wlieols wero buckled and the roar portion of the body was pushed in, causing the hood to collapse on tho driver. The body of the clmr-a-banc was slightly damagod. Mr McDowell was cut with a piece of glass from one of the side wings. There,wero a fair number of passengers on tiio bus at the timo and it is fortunate that the accident was not attended by more serious results. MAGISTRATE’S COURT. The quarterly returns of tho local Magistrate’s Court show that 23 plaints wero issued and the total amount sued for was £403 11/8. In the criminal section 30 males and one female were proceeded against. Tho following local people have recently returned from a visit to tho Dunedin Exhibition: —Mr and Mrs S. Austin, Mrs and Mrs A. Easton, Miss Hort and Messrs R. Hornblow and Jas. Ross. A party of local ’sportsmen intended to visit Piriroa next week on a deer-stalking expedition. The many friends of Mrs Alex fepeirs, senr, will bo pleased to learn that her health has shown marked improvement during tho past few days. Mrs Spoil's has been undergoing special treatment in Palmerston North rocontly. Tho death took place at Auckland on March 14th of Mrs Ennis, wife of Mr J. Stuart Ennis, at the age of 61 years. The late Mrs Ennis was the daughter of tho late Mr Edward Cummerfield, of Foxton. The deceased was born in Foxton, where she resided up to about 18 years ago. Deceased leaves a husband and one daughter, Mrs J. McSweenoy, of Auckland.
