NOTICE OF STRIKE.
AUSTRALIAN COALFIELDS. OVER TWENTY THOUSAND AFFECTED. SYDNEY, April 7. It is now considered to be almost certain that the colliery engine-drivers and firemen in the southern and western districts of New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania will also agree to give the colliery owners fourteen days’ notice of their intention to strike. The majority of the men appear to think that the only action left them in protest against the recent awrd is to strike. This decision will be governed by a majority vote at the various aggregate meetings, and if it is decided to cease work the proposed notices will be handed in so as to operate from Monday next.
The strike will render idle over 20,000 men.— Press Association.
