Received April 8, 9.45 a.m. SYDNEY, April 8. The effect of tho amalgamation of the deposed 'executive and the industrial sections of the Australian Labour Party conference will be to prevent tho militants led by Beasley and Garden gaining control of the Labour machine, which, it is contended, would mean imperilling the life of the Government. If the amalgamation is successful the Australian Workers’ Union will exercise a dominating influence on the new Australian Labour Party executive. —Press Association. STEVEDORES’ DISPUTE. MELBOURNE, April 7. The stevedores held a stop-work meeting to discuss the present system of picking up and delayed all overseas shipping, as no work was done after mid-day. It is expected that the result of the meeting of the owners will be an ultimatum to the men objecting to the present system of two pick ups a day.— Press Association.
