REPORTED LAND GRANT.
ACQUIRED BY JAPANESE
WASHINGTON DISTURBED,
WASHINGTON, March 30
Tho publication of the report that Japanese had acquired a tract of 2,000,000 acres of land from the Mexican Government, fronting Magdalena Bay, Pacific Coast, greatly disturbed higher Government circles. Not only wa3 it regarded as very grave that the Japanese should obtain a foothold in a Key position, which might possibly be a threat to American control of the Panama Canal, but the deal would havo involved deliberate defiance of American wishes and traditions by Mexico.
Congressman Johnson was particularly. apprehensive, for ho represents specially Pucific American interests. Late last evening Don Manual Tellez, the Mexican Ambassador, declared that the report was perfectly absurd. Tho Japanese Embassy also denied knowing anything of a Mexican concession of a strip of country 100 miles long and 40 miles wide.
