PRINCE FEROUZ WINS AUTUMN HANDICAP. Per Presa Association. HOKITIKA, April 7. The Westland Pacing Chib's autumn meeting was held to-day. The weather was warm and the course in good order. The attendance was moderate. The totalisator handled £0414, an increase of. £l5O on the amount last year. Additional results: AUTUMN HANDICAP, of 130 sovs; one mile and a-quarter. RAILWAY HANDICAP, of 400 sovs.

TITIRANGI WELTER HANDICAP, of 250 sovs. One mile.

MAIDEN PLATE HANDICAP, of 200 sovs. Seven furlongs.

HOBSONVILLE HANDICAP HURDLE RACE, of 300 sovs. One mile and threequarters. ■

FOLEY MEMORIAL HANDICAP, of 700 sovs. One mile and a quarter.

At the Warracknaboal (Vic.) Court recently, George Vincent, horsetrainer, was charged with having inflicted wilful injury to the racehorse Royal Matten to the extent of under £2O. Richard Gould, an apprentice jockey, gave evidence that he saw Vincent with his right hand in the horse’s mouth. Vincent said to him, “It is all right. I have given him a fast one.” The horse, usually quiet, became unmanageable, and had to be scratched from the race. Detective Grieve said that ho found a paper with white powder adhering to it oil accused’s person when arrested. Claude Levis, veterinary surgeon, said that he took a swab from Royal Matten, whose condition was consistent with the effect of heroin. Charles Price, Government analyst, said that the swabs and powders produced all contained heroin. Mr W. C.
