WESTLAND RACES. Per Press Association. HOKITIKA, April 7. The Westland races opened in fine weather. There is. a fair attendance and the course is in good order. Results : TRIAL HANDICAP, of 70 sovs. Six lurlongs. Para, 9.5 1 Hallowmoon, 8.11 2 Cashbox, 7.0 J Scratched: Lord Leslie and Prince Charleroi. Won by two lengths, three lengths betwen second and third. Time, 1.17 2-5. CANTERBURY TROTTING MEETING. CHRISTCHURCH, April 7. The Metropolitan Trots are being continued in line weather. The course is in good order and the attendance is fair. Results : HARVEST HANDICAP, of 220 sovs. One mile and five furlongs. Engagement 1 Randolph 2 Queen Ida 3 All started. Won by two lengths. Time, 3.50 1-5. OXFORD HANDICAP, of 300 sovs. One mile. Golden Devon 1 Darknite 2 Ben Oliau 3 Scratched: Dreamalion. Won by half a length. Time, 2.12 3-5.
YEARLING SALES. DOMINION BREEDERS PROMINENT. Received April 7, 9.45 a.m. SYDNEY, April 7. At the yearing sales Mr J. die Co mb, of New Zealand, purchased a Jlossendalo—Scintilla filly for 340 guineas and a Governor - General —\ enusia colt for 200 guineas. Mr W. J. Jorgensen, of New Zealand, bought a gjuantock—Martian Princess con lor 230 guineas. Mr E. \V. xlllison, of New Zealand, purchased a Grey Monk —Adina colt ror 120 guineas. Mr W. R. Kemball, of iNew Zealand, purchased a Sarchedon—W elkin Queen colt for 350 guineas, a Orby's Pride — Lady Manners filly for 390, a Biplane —Ronces Valles Idly for 100 guineas. On account of Air Jan Duncan, of the Elderslie stud, a Paper Aloiiey —Glen Helen colt realised <OO guineas. A Jtossendale—Lady Bonann colt realised 925 guineas. On account of Mr T. H. Lowry, Hawke’s Bay, two King John fillies sold for 130 and 33d guineas. On account —of Air Jan Duncan, a Paper Aioney—Bo-Peep colt realised 101)0 guineas, a Paper Alone.v —liistoirette colt 550; a Paper Money—Philomel colt 525; a Paper Aioney—Esther colt 525, a Paper Aioney —Desmine colt 475 guineas. There wero only seven Paper Moneys and they realised 5375 guineas. On account of Air W. G. Stead, Hastings, a Leighton—Lady Ball filly fetched 350 guineas, a Leighton—Gold Painting gelding 475; a Leighton—Vegas filly 320 guineas. A Valais—Quaker Girl colt realised 1100 guineas. Air AlcCombe, of New Zealand, purchased a Comedy King—Kuningada .colt for 825 guineas. Altogether 165 lots wero sold and realised j39,09G guineas, an average, of over 236 guineas.—Press Association.
