RUSSIANS SHOT.
CLEANING UP CANTON
GENERAL’S COUP.
HONGKONG, March 25
General Kiang Kai Shek carried out a remarkable coup at Canton this week.
It appears that the extremists have been plotting to overthrow the Government. One army corps and a marine corps were disaffected, but General Chiang Kai Shek disarmed both, and arrested a number of persons, including about 30 Russians. It is credibly reported that four Russians were summarily shot, and that a dozen are still in custody. Others havo been released.
Chiang also surrounded the boycotters’ headquarters, disarmed the pickets there, and arrested two of tho leaders.
The boycott of British trade has not been relaxed, but Chiang’s coup is regarded as foreshadowing efforts' to break up the boycotters’ organisation.
