Mr E. H. Knight, of' the Weraroa ■' os * ; Office, has received notice of his transfer to Halcombe on promotion. Mr Noel Itodgers, son of Mr T. J. Rodgers, of Church street east, has received advice that he has passed his final law examinations.
Mr Leslie Cahill, formerly of Palmerston North and now of Woodville, has been transferred to Wanganui, whero ho will continue in a similar capacity on the clerical staff of the Railway Department.
Mr M. J. Kennedy, manager of the Wellington Gas Company, formerly of Palmerston North, was a passenger to Wellington yesterday by the Ulimarop,, after five weeks’ absence in Australia.
Dr. R. "V. Svetlik having been appointed by the President of the Czecho-Slovak Republic Consul-Gen-eral for Australia and Now Zealand, has assumed his official duties and lias taken over the administration of the office as from April 1, 192 G. fho Consul-General’s headquarters are at Sydney. Mr F. H. Garner, who has been sole teacher at the Rata-iti school (near Huntervillc) for the past five years was the recipient of a presentation last week prior to his departure for Palmerston North, where ho has accepted an appointment. Reference was made to his ability as a teacher and regret at his departure expressed.
Another old colonist of Auckland celebrated his 100th birthday on Sunday —Captain Haromanus Copeland, a veteran of the sea and the New Zealand coastal trade. Captain Copeland is a native of a country district in Hanover, where his father was a farmer, and is proud to bo able to say that ho was born under the flag of a British sovereign, inasmuch as George IV. of England was also King of Hanover at the timo he came into the world.
