HOLIDAY CRICKET.

NAPIER v. PALMERSTON NORTH. VICTORY TO THE VISITORS. Tho cricket match between tho Napier Technical Old Boys and a team of local colts, which opened on the Sportsground on Saturday, was carried through to a conclusion yesterday under somewhat. unfavourable conditions, tho sky being overcast, while a cold wind was in evidence. On tho opening day Napier had compiled 254, to which the home eleven replied with 234, thus giving tho visitors an advantago of 20 runs on the first innings. Their second visit did not, however, open very auspiciously, two wickets being down for three runs, hut two innings by Pirie, who returned 53, and J. Gallichan, a local playor, who compiled 43 and was unbeaten at the close, saw' tho total carried to 148. Palmerston North were thus left with 169 to get to win, but in a fight against time and in a rapidly 'fading light, failed to attain the requisite number of runs, tho side being all out for 110, Spring heading the returns with 35, wlide Webster compiled 29. Napier thus won by a margin of 58 runs. Rouso proved to. bo the most successful trundbr in thj ranks of the visitors, accounting for eight wickets in tho two Innings at a cost of 117 runs, while Spring, the local High School player, secured nine wickets at a cost of 118 runs at Napier’s two visits to> tho batting crease. In the cricket match concluded today, Hawke’s Bay defeated Manawatu by an innings and 118 runs. After resuming the first innings the home side carried the total to 484 for tlio loss of six wickets ' and declared. Lowry (not out) and C. Beuth (not out) batted splendidly for centuries.
