The dentil occurred at his residence At Rata a few days ago, of Mr John Hammond, well known throughout tho Rangitikei district. Tho late Mr Hammond was 68 years of age. A Sydney Press Association cablegram reports the death of Mr Robert P. Thomson, author and journalist. Ho was tho author of a combined history ol Australia and New Zealand, which is regarded by many authorities as a text book.
The death occurred yesterday at a private hospital in Wellington of Mr Robert Dixon, for many years treasurer and a director of the Victoria Bowling Club. Mr Dixon underwent an operation some ten days ago, and complications ensuing, another operation was necessary, following which Mr Dixon gradually failed until he died yesterday morning. The funeral of tho late Mr E. G. Barling took place yesterday when thoro was a large attendance of friends of the deceased gentleman.' The floral emblems forwarded testified to the esteem in which tho late Mr Barling was held. The pall-bearers were Messrs P. Hansen, D. Kerslake, B. Braddick, W. Voss, W. Hooker and E. Deydon. The Rev. J. C. Abbott conducted the services at the graveside. The death occurred yesterday of a well-known Palmerston North resident in tho person of Mr Harold Anderson, of 137 Scandia street. For many years the deceased gentleman had lived in the district. He was keenly interested in art and had pursued his studies in connection therewith in England and America. On his return to Palmorston North ho commenced in business in Main street, which gave wide scope for his talents and his clients were drawn from a wide field. Mr Anderson, who was 57 years of age, displayed considerable skill in his profession and had exhibited both landscape and portrait work in the art exhibition of the Dominion. He is survived by a widow and a grown up family.
