ELEPHANTS AMOK.
AN ALL-NIGHT BATTLE
CALCUTTA, March 18
An all-night fight with two wild elephants of tho largest variety, armed with terriblo tusks, provided sensation after sensation for the inhabitants of a copper-mining district, 20 miles from Jamshepur. The battle began in the afternoon, and gradually approached the small mining village of Rakha, whose terrified population fled. Opposition by a party which sought to stay the progress of the elephants increased the fury of the huge animals, and the village hospital was in imminent danger of destruction. When the villager’s who had fled timidly returned next morning both elephants wero found dead, The appearance of the carcases indicated that they had turned on one another and fought to the death. Portion of tho tusks of one had been driven deep into the head of the other.
