AUSTRALIAN ART.
STRANGE LONDON .VIEWS. FORGOTTEN FACTS. LONDON, March 16. Apparently written with complete disregard of Australia’s magnificent contribution to Britain’s concert platform, operatic and music-ball stage, and- the fact that many Australians at present are playing leading roles in West End successes, a leading article in the Morning Post, referring to Miss Irene Vanbrugh’s cordial reception in Australia, says: “It might seem curious to find Australia without native drama or native art, if we did not find European traditions and standards still i --ding ion; America’s stage, while South America gots her beloved opera from Milan and her novels from Paris. Some day the Dominions will have well-established arts of their own, but at present they are so busy on tho conquest of brute nature and the establishment of industries that they have not yet. created a class of artists and entertainers, and therefore look to London to supply their wants.
“Tho Dominions are eager and receptive, and are beginning to be critical. Already they have begun to produce their own art. We will have not only Australian singers and actors, but also Australian companies visiting England. In tlie meantime, they look to us.”
