PERSONAL TIT-BITS.
WHAT AUSTRALIANS LIKE. LONDON, March 15. “When celebrities in Australia desiro to know their own personalities they naturally, look to tho newspapers,” said Miss Irene Vanbrugh to a gathering of London journalists at a luncheon. “This,” she said, “is because Australians are fond of tit-bits of little personal gossip, such as whether nobilities are shingled, and what sort of face cream they use. These things are immaterial to Londoners, but important to Australians, who are consequently critical and frequently possessed of preconceived notions, rendering it diflicplt for celebrities to live up or down to their journalistic reputations. “I love the great progressive Australian cities. Melbourne has triumphed over her natural ugliness by building a beautiful city of magnificent boulevards, but man’s handiwork has rather soiled Sydney’s marvellous natural beauty.”
