MUMTAZ BEGUM CASE.

MAHARAJAH MAY APPEAL.

LONDON, Jan. 25. The Daily Chronicle states that Sir John Simon recently visited India in connection with tho Viceroy’s demand upon the Maharajah of Indore to justify lymself before tho Indian princes in view of tho Mumtaz Beguiil conspiracy. Sir John Simon and Sir Patrick Hastings will _ probably be counsel for tho Maharajah if he appeals to a commission of icllowprinces as King’s counsel advise that there is no evidenco to associate tho Maharajah with tho conspiracy. A precedent for tho appeal to the princes is tho trial of tho Gaekwar of Baroda fifty years ago as a sequel to a poison case. —A. and N.Z. cable.
