AMATEUR ATHLETES
local visit improbable. APPLICATION TO MASTERTON FOR DATE. Advice that the itinerary drawn up for the tour of Scholz and Hahn, the American athletes, not include a visit to Palmerston North, was received at a meeting last evening of tho Manawatu Sub-Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, the writers (the Wellington Centre) suggesting that the sub-centre should, if it so desired, approach the Wairarapa Sub-Centre in reference to obtaining one of the latter body s dates Considerable discussion ensued and it was finally decided to ask Wairarapa for its last date, March 3, and to strongly protest to the New Zealand Council against the elimination of Palmerston Worth from the tour. It was pointed out that, because the sub-centre had rejected both January 22 and 23—considered unsuitable dates owing to counter-attractions its request for a visit had been turned down.
