' CLERE CUP RACE. The Palmerston North Swimming Club conducted the first event for the Clere Cup at the municipal baths last evening, the distance being 33 1-3 yards. Ten members competed, necessitating two heats, tho results of which were as follow: First heat: R. Page (3sec.) 1, R. Evans (3sec.) 2, G. Sollitt (lsec.) 3. Time, 20 l-6secs. Second heat: R. Milverton (3sec.) 1, C. Birch (4seo.) 2, F. Bendall (3500.) 3. Time, 20 3-ssecs. Final: Milverton 1, Page 2, Birch 3. Time, 20 l-ssecs. A close finish, inches covering the plaoed men. EYRE CUP. Tho Y’.M.C.A. Club decided the second race for the Eyre Cup last evening, the distance being 66 2-3 yards. Tho result was as follows : First heat; C. McKenzie (scr.) 1, A. Jolly (6secs.) 2. Time, 63secs. Second heat: Dawick (7secs.) 1, Hume (osecs.) 2. Time, 50secs. Final: C. McKenzie 1,, Jolly 2, Dawick 3. Time, Slsecs.
