HALF A MILLION DOLLARS. TO DEFEND BOXING TITLE. NEW YORK, Jan. 20. Tom O’Rourke, tho boxing promoter, has wired Jack Dempsey at Miami, Florida, an offer of 590,000 dollars to defend the world’s heavy-weight boxing title against Wills next summer. —A. and N.Z. cable.
ANOTHER STORY OF OFFER. DEMPSEY WILL CONSIDER MATTER. LOS ANGELES, Jan. 12. Jack Dempsey has been offered £250,000 by a group of business men to fight Harry Wills here this year. Ho announced that ho would favourably consider tho offer. Meantime Dempsey is starting business as a movie producer at Hollywood on his own account.
CONFIDENT DEMPSEY. ANTICIPATES EASY WIN. LOS ANGELES, Jan. 13. The world’s champion boxer, Jack Dempsey, claims that lio is in excellent physical shape and does three stiff rounds every day with a sparring partner. . Dempsey has finally closed with Floyd Fitzsimmons as promoter. Whether Fitzsimmons will accept the Los Angeles millionaire’s offer or proceed with plans to stage tho fight at Michigan City remains to be seen. In any event Dempsey, declares that even if their license reads: “For an exhibition bout only,” lio will be able to trim Wills within four rounds.
