SERIOUS CHARGES.

NATIVES- BEFORE COURT. ALLEGED DRO WNING OF WOMEN Received January 21, 11.55 a.m. CAPETOWN, Jan. 20. The trial has begun at Broken Hill, in Northern Rhodesia, of 27 natives, members of the sect known as “Watch Tower.” They are charged with drowning 22 natives, mostly women, during baptism. The central figure is the native Porno Njindera, known in the Congo as “Mwanalesa, Son of God,”' who has last both arms. The crown case is that the accused baptised converts by immersion, informing them that anyone not baptised was a wizard or witch. Some* times they held the converts under tho water till they were drowned and then issued a warning that anyone giving information would die.—A. and N.Z. cable and Ruter.
