ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING.
Received January 21, 10.40 a.m. LONDON, Jan. 20. At tho annual general meeting of the National Farmers’ Union in London tho milk and dairy produce committee reported that a determined effort should be made to secure compulsory labelling of imported cheese under tho provisions of the Merchandise Marks Bill. Tho Parliamentary committee, reporting on tho £1,000,000 grant for assisting tho marketing of Dominion produce, endorsed tho view that tlio taxpayers’ money should not be employed to give preference to Dominion produce over tho homo products in tho British market.—Router.
CLAIM FOR PROTECTION. Received January 21, 11.20 a.m LONDON, Jan. 20. Mr E. W. Langsford in his presidential address at the National Farmers’ Union, said tho Government’s policy for securing tho maintenance of land in arablo cultivation unquestionably involved some form of protection either through tho Customs tariff or a subsidy. When other industries were accorded statutory protection under the Safeguarding of Industries Act, ho was not prepared to abandon ono iota their claim to equal consideration.—A. and N.Z. cable.
