DOCTOR’S SUSPENSION.
TERMINATED AFTER MANY YEARS. LONDON, Jan. 19. Tho Royal College of Surgeons has decided to terminate tho suspension of Doctor Axliam, aged 86, who was deprived of tho right to practise in 1912 because ho assisted Sir H. Barker, the famous bone-setter, by administering anaesthetics while the latter was operating. Dr. Axham’s case aroused much discussion in the newspapers, tho public considering lie had been unjustly treated, especially as Sir H. Barker was knighted.
Tho effect of tho decision is that Dr. Axliam can now apply to tho General Medical Council to have his name restored to the list of medical practitioners. In an interview, Dr. Axliam said "I am an old man now, but my last days will bo made happier. 1 shall lodge, an appeal immediately. I am longing now to seo some of my friends and colleagues, whom I have not seen for many years.” Sir H. Barker says: ‘‘Dr. Axliam first came to see me operate in 1905. Ho watched mo for forty-five afternoons, and then said ho was convinced it was liis duty, as a qualified man, to administer anaesthetics for me. Ho believed what ho did was a public duty. Ho never hesitated and paid the penalty by the loss of his professional status, which has lasted for fifteen years.—A. and N.Z. cable.
