RAILWAYMEN’S PICNIC.
A PLEASANT OUTING. Kakariki was tho venue of the railwaymen’s annual picnic yesterday, when approximately 1000 picknickers left Palmerston North and Eoilding for the day in a special train of 10 carriages drawn by two engines. Tho weather was all that could bo desired and those present spent an enjoyable day in tho pleasant bush near tho river. Swimming was indulged in by young and old, the gathering boing of the opinion that it was the most successful picnic yet held. Children were well provided for as regards fruit and sweets. The winners of a baby show were as follow: —Six months and under, Mrs Morgan 1, Mrs Swonssoii 2, Mrs Gordon 3: 12 months and over six months, Mrs Kelly 1, Airs Heath 2, Airs l3utler 3: 2 years and over 12 month*. Airs King 1, Airs F'letcher 2, Airs O’Reilly 3. Air and Airs Kavanagh acted as judges.
