TROWBRIDGE TRAGEDY.

WHAT ARREST REVEALED. LONDON, Dec. 28. Bombardier John Lincoln, who was arrested in connection with the shooting of Edward Richards at Trowbridge, .turns out to be a son of the notorious Tribich Lincoln, a former member of Parliament for Darlington, who was deported from England. Richards apparently fired his own revolver in defence. He had a large sum of money in his possession. The police found 70 empty pistol cartridges on the scene of the crime, and they are now following up clues connected with the mystery. There is said to be a woman in the case.—A. and N.Z; cable.

Ignatius Timothy Tibrich Lincoln was bom in Hungary in 1879. In January, 1910, he became a Liberal member of the House of Commons for Darlington, but at the end of the year he retired. He was arrested in 1915 on a charge of forgery, but escaped to America. Later he was extradited and taken to England. The authorities were mainly anxious to get him back to England as it was alleged that he had divulged important military and naval secrets to the Central Powers. These charges were never actually proved, but he was denationalised and deported from England.
