BRISK BETTING
AT MANAWATU MEETING. INCREASE OF £17,591 OVER 1924. Totalisator business was brisk throughout the Manawatu meeting, particularly on the first and second days, the sum of £57,795 being handled on the former and £47,565 on the latter occasion. For a period it apr peared that the figures for the concluding day would not attain those of the third day of the 1924 fixture, but towards the close matters improved and the last race being productive of the heaviest betting of the day a small increase was recorded, making the total increase for the meeting £17,591. Following are the detailed figures on a comparative basis:—
RECORD YEAR 1920. The record year of the club was in 1920, when the substantial sum of £198,994 was handled by the totalisator. That period was, however, what might well be termed the boom year, and probably some time will elapse before such figures are repeated locally.
1924. 1925. First day .. Second day . Third day .. . £50,333 . £37,721 . £35,927 £57,795 £47,575 £36,202 Totals . £123,981 £141,572
