WILHELM, JUNR.

A WEDDING GIFT. PLAN TO PUNISH “UNGRATEFUL PEOPLE.” Wilhelm the younger is very angry with the German people, and is determined “to make them pay for it to some considerable tune.” In 1905 forty cities and towns subscribed on the occasion of the wedding of the then Crown Prince in order to present him with a wonderful table service in solid silver. The work took many years to complete and was only just finished when the war broke out and prevented it being presented. , - After the revolution the view was held that young Wilhelm had become a private person and that a wedding present meant for the heir to the throne need not be given to him, but should be put in a museum. ANGRY OUTBURST. When, however, the ex - Crown Prince returned from Holland one of the first things he did was to demand this “wedding present.” A committee of mayors of the cities and towns in question went recently to Oels Castle to endeavour to arrange matters in accordance with the altered state of affairs. Wilhelm refused to see the. deputation, and caused it to be informed that the German people had “shown such ingratitude towards him” that he “was determined to insist on his rights,” and force “an ungrateful people” to hand over treasure worth millions of marks. Now that the German people know what the ex-Crown Prince thinks of them one wonders if they will be so keen to cheer him when next he appears in public as he has lately shown himself to be rather fond of doing.
