FAREWELL SOCIAL.

Last night a social evening was held in the Orient Hall, when the friends af Mr Fred Altaws gathered to farewell him prior to his departure to Australia, and a successful gathering eventuated. Dancing and games were indulged in, there being several novelties, including Cinderella waltz, streamers, confetti and balloon dances. Before supper was partaken of, Mr D. Dilkes, on behalf of the company, presented Mr Altaws with a handsome leather travelling case.' He said that although Mr Altaws had only been in Palmerston North for a term of three years he had gained many friends, and it was with great regret that they learned of his impending departure. Cheers were called for and heartily responded to. In reply, Mr Altaws said it was with great regret that he was leaving and lie would never forget the many happy days he had spent among his kind friends in Palmerston North. The ladies provided an excellent supper, after which social items were rendered, including those by Mr Maroon, violin solo; Mr Culver, conjurer; and Mr Marchant, ventriloquist.
