SETTLEMENT ADVOCATED
- APPEAL TO WAGE EARNERS. WASHINGTON, Nov. 8. Wage earners are urged to support. the cancellation or modification of war ; debts owing to the United States by ! European Governments, in a state- ■ ment by Mr Matthew Woll, one of the vice-presidents of the American Federation of Labour. Coupled with his argument for forgiveness or reduction, Mr Woll challenges “the truth, the logic, the humanity and the common sense” of the assumption of Senator Borah, of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, that “any friendliness in this matter towards debtor peoples means betrayal of the people of tho United States.” Mr Woll' declared that international debts must be settled in such a rational way as to promote the prosperity of the debtor and creditor nations.—A. and N.Z. cable.
