CRICKET CONTROL

MANAWATU ASSOCIATION

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

MEETS

The weekly meeting of tho Manawatu Cricket Association’s management committee was held last evening, when there were present: Messrs F. J. Oakley (in the chair), M. A. Ongley, R. B. Ross, J. Silson, J. A. Smith and F. S. C. Hubbard.

The Town Clerk wrote advising, in reply to the association’s application for the use of the Sportsground and Papaeoia Park, Terrace End, for the ensuing season, that it had been decided to grant the use of tho Sportsground provided that the association paid the sum of £SO towards tho preparation of all wickets, such sum to be paid in two instalments on December 1, 1925, and March 1, 1926, respectively. Papaeoia Park had also been placed at the disposal of the association, a chargo of 10s each to be made for the preparation of all wickets. Relative to the reasons advanced by the association for a reduction in the annual chargo of £SO for the preparation of wickets, the writer had been directed to point out that, if cricket were not played on the Sportsground, the upkeep would be reduced by naoro than £SO, consequently the association was receiving the benefit and not the council.—The chairman diifered from the council, and it was decided that the association approach the reserves committoo on tho matter. To this end the chairman was requested to arrange for the grounds ’committee to wait on Mr Fitzherbert to discuss the whole’position. The Hastings Association wrote asking whether it would be possible to play home and home junior matches during thg holiday season, 1 the first in Palmerston North during Christmas week and the second at Hastings at Easter, or vice versa.—The matter was left* in tho hands of tho secretary to ascertain whether there were players available to make the trip. R.S.A. .Club wrote making application for the re-classification of C. A. N. Pilcher and J. Trehey from, senior to junior.—Granted. 1 Mr M. A. Ongley wrote giving formal notice that he had met Mr G. L. Marshall, of the Itangitikei Association, when the following arrangements had been made relative to the forthcoming Hawke Cup match: —(1) The match to be played at Palmerston North; (2) the dates to be December 9 and 10; (3) Itangitikei to. remain and play on the 11th and 12th, if necessary, to finish the match; (4) other arrangements to-be governed by the Hawke Cup rules. Mr Marshall had also mentioned that Itangitikei would bring an umpire, and if this was not in accordance with the Hawke Cup rules, or the wishes of the home association, the matter should be taken up with tho Itangitikei Association at once.—The action of Mr Ongley was confirmed, and it was decided to advise the Itangitikei Association that no objection would be raised to tho visiting association bringing its own umpire.—lt was also decided to postpone the club fixtures on the opening day of the above fixture.
