LICENSING POLL.

ARCHDEACON’S VIEWS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Nov. 9. Tho Ven. Archdeacon H. W: Williams, Dominion president of the licensingßeform Association, speaking of tho result of tho licensing poll, said the association considered it highly satisfactory in view of the fact that highly organised bodios have for many years been working for continuance on the ono hand and prohibition on the other. It was particularly gratifying to find that tho vote for moderate issue had increased by oyer 50 per cent. The result was clearly justification for the position taken rip by the association and encouragement to prosecute its efforts. They had every reason now to expect Parliament to seriously take in hand tho long overdue task of passing effective measures to reform the licensing laws. He was satisfied that such action was earnestly desired by a far lorgor number of electors than those casting their votes for State purchase and control. He held that Parliament, in framing the legislation, was bound to give careful consideration to tho proposal of corporate control recommended by the Parliamentary Committee for consideration by tho Government. Tho passage of reforming legislation would clear the way for a policy of true Christian temperance, hitherto overshadowed by the concentration on prohibition.
