While serving a term of imprisonment for theft, John Quayle did not spend his period of enforced retirement repenting of his wrongdoing, hut was busily engaged planning out the future. Ho is a carpenter by trade and while in custody was engaged in carpentering work. He secreted tools in a convenient place, and when discharged walked off with the stolen goods. To-day he was sentenced to three months’ hard labour. He was remanded to Dunedin to answer further charges.
