GENERAL ELECTION.
SOME AMENDED RESULTS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Nov. 6. The scrutiny and checking of the rolls lias commenced. It is expected that in the city electorates this work will he completed to-morrow. The recount will then commence, though in the country districts, where there is a difficulty in collecting the ballot boxes, the recount will not commence till Monday. There have been no further figures from the three doubtful electorates, Lyttelton, Westland and Pahiatua, and the absent votes will not be counted till the official recount is undertaken, so that some days will pass before the definite decision of the people of these districts becomes known. It is anticipated that t'fio recount will be completed by November 12 or 13. Amended results have bean received as under:— WAKATIPU. • J. Horn (N.) 3208 J. Ritchio (R.) 2427 A. Ashworth (Lab.) ..... 721 EASTERN MAORI. Hon. A. T. Ngata (N.) 447 G Hone Mokeno (Lab.) ... 804 WESTERN MAORI. Sir Maui Pomare (R.) . 4008 Rangi Mawhete (Lab.) . 1292 Tewhakaririka Patene . 110 DEPOSITS FORFEITED. Each candidate for Parliament was obliged to lodge the sum of £lO with his nomination. This deposit is forfeited it the candidate does not secure 25 per cent of the total of the votes gained by the successful candidate. In this election no less than 20 candidates failed to obtain the requisite number of votes, and the State will thereby profit to the extent of £260. Candidates who forfeit their deposits include: R.
