SALE OF WORK. CHURCH BUILDING FUND. For some time past members of St. Patrick’s Church congregation have been busily engaged in preparing for a sale of work, and last night, in the Zcalandia Hull, the public was given an opportunity of judging what can be done by a band of earnest ladies. The function, which was given considerable patronage, was well organised, the numerous stalls doing excellent business. The initial pulis in a tug-of-war competition, in which six teams are participating, aroused much interest, as did also a number of items by school pupils and a fancy dance by Miss C. Sapwell, a pupil of Miss McKenzie-Forbcs. In officially opening the salo of work, the Deputy-Mayor, Cr. Graham, paid a tribute to the energy displayed by the ladies who had laboured to make the sale the success it undoubtedly would be. He wished them every success and expressed the hope that a considerable sum would be raised. Mr J. A. Naslr, M.P., briefly endorsed the previous speaker’s remarks. Rev. Father Lynch, in returning thanks, referred to tiio sympathetic attitude of other denominations, a largo number of non-Catholics lieing present, that evening. He congratulated Mr Nash on his success at the recent poll, and hoped that success would also attend his efforts in the future. The following are the stall holders: —Flowers: Mesdamos Ongley, Faire, O’Connor and Rodgers; jumble, Mesdames R. Sherman and assistants; produce, Mesdamos Casey and Hickey; Children of Mary, Misses Butler and SulliVan - ; sweets, Misses E. Brophy
and Kavanagh; drinks, Mrs Cope; tea rooms, Mesdames Sim, O’Hagan, Baldwin, H. N. Watson, Gavin, Trask and Healey. In the tug-of-war Why Worry beat Awapuni and Cafe do Paris beat Hume Pipe Co., but a deadlock resulted between High Tension and Sterne Bros. (Shannon) after three pulls resulting in a draw. Tho judge is Mr J. Fahey and the clerk of’seales Mr J. Wishncwsky. The programme for to-night is: Ford Motor Co. v. Cafe de Paris No. 2, Why Worry v. Cafe No. 1, High ' Tension v. Sterne. Brcs., Tluire Pipe Co. v. Awapuni.
