MANAWATU SEAT. AIR LINKLATER’S THANKS. (From Our Fox ton Correspondent.) When it became evident last evening that the Reform candidate would be elected for Manawatu, Mr J. LinkInter addressed the crowd of electors assembled in Main street. He said he was proud indeed of the confidence tho electors hud placed in him and that ho would do jiis best during the next three years to prove to them their confidence was not misplaced. He would do his best for all sections of the community ‘and he hoped that, at the end of the present term, the good feeling existing would be continued and that the electors would once more return to power a strong and powerful government. He appreciated the tactics of his opponents throughout the election. They . had played the game and the contest had been one of the cleanest in New Zealand. Mr Linklater then called for three cheers for his opponents, which were readily given, cheers also being given for himself, Mr Ben Roberts (Labour candidate) also thanked the electors. He said he was not downhearted. He had lived to champion many a forlorn hope and would champion many in the future. Cheers were then given for Air Roberts. Both candidates then addressed a packed audience in the Town Hall.
