YOUNG ADVENTURER.

DISAPPEARS FROM STEAMER. MELBOURNE, Oct. 24. Bernard Augustine McCartin, the 13-year-old Malvern youngster who rode the bars under the Sydney express a few weeks ago, and repeated this feat to Adelaide last Sunday, disappeared from the moment the Zealandia berthed from Adelaide to-day. McCartin had been put on the Zealandia at Adelaide. His parents arranged to meet the steamer to-day, and arrived at the wharf at the time she was expected, to find that she had been in an hour. And-the boy was nowhere to be found. He told a sailor, when his parents were not on the wharf, that he was going home himself. He has not turned up, however, and a watch is being kept to see that he does not attempt to get away by train. Young McCartin’s imagination has been fired by books of adventure. He lives in an atmosphere of his own, rarely mixing with other boys. Yet he looks a frail little chap.
