SURGEONS’ CONFERENCE.

HONOUR FOR ENGLISHMEN. NEW YORK, Oct. 30. At the American College of Surgeons’ Conference, at Philadelphia, five eminent foreign surgeons were extended tho honorary fellowship. From England, Lord Dawson, of Penn, consultant to tli’o King; Dr. William Blair Bell, of Liverpool; Sir William Arbuthnot Lane and Dr. Phillip Eranklin, of London; and from Italy, Professor Vittorio; Puttie, of Bologn. Five hundred practising American surgeons who had passed tho qualifications were admitted. Dr. George Eastermann, of the Mayo clinic, declared that human beings would ho healthier if they ato half as much in twice the time. Ho also condemned excessive smoking. Dr. Brian Sword, of Nowliaven, reported that carbon dioxido could usefully bo administered in anaesthetic, lessening the anaesthetic necessary to produce unconsciousness and shortening ' the recovery.
